LEE'S NEW SCHOOL HISTORY
of the UNITED STATES

This book was published first in 1898, again in 1899 and this edition printed in 1907. Please understand that reprinting a book of this type was quite an undertaking in those days. This suggests to me that this must have been a popular book.

Since it was published shortly after the Civil War, much of the information given is much more detailed than that given today. It addresses America's discovery by Columbus and the Revolutionary period as part of America's struggle for religious freedom and teaches this nation's Christian heritage as part of the history curriculum.

Many will object to the contents of this book simply because it does not conform to the "politically correct" thinking of the 21st century. If you think this is not the case - then simply read other pre-1900 history books and discover "the way it really was."

What can you do with this book?

First - it will make the perfect history book for educating your children - both as a primary reader and second as a comparison to present day "history."

Second - use it to validate claims that Christianity was part of America's heritage. And that it was taught as such.

Third - learn for yourself that you were taught incorrectly by "historians" who expressed a bias and contempt for America's once strong moral character, independent desire for freedom, all based on Christian fundamentals.

A few Quotes from the Book

Page 3 - "Prepared for use in Public and Private schools"
Page 22 - Origin of the Indians - "...like the other races of mankind, were descended from Adam and Eve."
Page 176 - Results of the Revolution - "...the connection between church and state was broken. The United states by its Constitution forbade all legislation upon religious questions."
Page 246 - The Land of the Honey Bee - "Smith, in 1843, pretended that a message from heaven told the Mormon men to marry as many wives as they pleased, because women had no souls until they were married."
Page 262 - Slavery recognized by the Constitution - "... hundreds of thousands of African slaves had been christianized under slavery's influence. The kindest relations existed between the slaves and their owners. A cruel and neglectful master was rarely found. ...Mr. Lincoln, in the beginning, was unwilling that the question of slavery be considered one of the principle causes of the war, and admitted that the right to hold slaves was guaranteed by the Constitution. Later on, he acted on the ground that emancipation had become "a military necessity."
